Strength Training - Why Do It and How to Start By Mel Richards

It is generally well known that we lose bone mass as we age, a phenomena that affects women more than men and that far too often results in bones that are weak and prone to break, especially in the hips, wrists and shoulders. Unfortunately, although in many cases surgical procedures now produce excellent results (we have a number of clients that have returned to running after hip replacements), too many people don´t fully recover from the stress of the operation and never regain the quality of life that they previously enjoyed. In the worst cases, this leads to a sometimes rapid decline in general health and an untimely death. It is widely accepted that weight-bearing exercise helps to slow bone loss and may even in some cases be able to reverse it, which is why "cardio" exercise such as walking and running (in moderation) can be very beneficial.

However, when it comes to targeting the bones of the shoulders and arms, strength training is essential. Such exercises can also enhance the benefits of the weight-bearing cardio activity on other joints, probably because the effect of the tendons pulling on the bones stimulates bone repair or growth. Equipment such as free weights, machines, resistance bands and medicine balls can all play a part in making strength training fun (or at least more fun!). However, you don´t have to invest in equipment or join a gym to do strength training.

Body weight can also provide an effective training medium. If dedicating time to strength training really doesn´t appeal, adding a few press ups (or push ups for our American readers!) to your daily routine is a great place to start. When that becomes a habit, you can look at adding more exercises and developing your programme. How do you start doing press ups when you can´t even do one?! Simple, do five! In my experience, it is best to avoid doing press ups on your knees, as very few people ever progress from there to the full exercise and therefore never reap all of the benefits of this "whole body" exercise.

Instead, try this: Adopt the standard press up position - Lie with the body raised off the floor, hands slightly wider than shoulder-width apart, arms extended and body straight. Keeping the body straight, bend the elbows and lower the shoulders and hips towards the floor - only go as low as you can to be sure that you are going to be able to do five repetitions. If that means that you only flex the elbows one inch, great! Do five "1-inch press-ups" every time you get the chance. With this approach, you will find that you quickly progress to making the final press up two inches, then three, then four and so on until you can do five full press ups. After that, keep adding repetitions until you can do twenty. You will be surprised how quickly you will progress with just a little bit of effort. A few words on correct form: Before starting the exercises, "activate the core" by lifting the chest, drawing in the stomach slightly and tightening the muscles of the butt (the "glutes"). When the arms are in the fully extended position, the shoulder blades should be "open".

As you lower the body towards the ground, you should feel the shoulder blades move together. Hold the head level. Fix the gaze slightly forward and actively engage the neck muscles to keep the head from dropping. Breathe in on the way down and out on the way up. Is A Lack Of Self-Confidence Ruining Your Relationships With Women? By Ray Drake

Most guys want to meet that special someone and if this describes you, you may be wondering why it's so hard to get into a successful relationship. The problem may lie with yourself though. I have found out that one of the biggest obstacles for guys and relationships is self-doubt. Not being confident in themselves tends to end relationships before they even start. Let's dig a little deeper. If you don't think of yourself as a catch, what girl is going to? Women tend to pick up the non-verbal cues that guys emit. If you approach a woman to start a conversation and don't appear to have any self-confidence, she's going to get the impression that you don't believe anything that you're saying.

This isn't going to be at all attractive to her, and chances are, she'll leave the first chance she get. The good news is that if you can solve your tendency to second guess yourself, you'll fix the majority of your dating problems! Almost all of the problems that guys have when approaching women can be linked back to self-doubt. If you can get over this obstacle, you'll find that your relationships are much better, women will be more attracted to you, and you'll feel confident pursuing the woman of your dreams. In order to conquer your self-doubt, try to determine the cause. Do you not feel physically attractive? Do you feel as though you're not important enough in your job? Ask yourself a series of questions about yourself and your lifestyle to determine the origin of self-doubt. Once you pinpoint the source, you can begin to address the issue and become more confident in your daily life.

For example, if you're not happy about your body, think of ways to make changes or ways to feel more confident in your appearance. Chances are, there's multiple ways to decrease your self-doubt. Once you start to get rid of your doubts and fears, you'll feel much less pressure. Instead of feeling a sense of desperation about approaching women, you'll feel more confident hanging back until you've found someone that truly captures your attention. Then, you'll also feel better about approaching her and starting a conversation.

Your biggest obstacle is almost always yourself so if you can get around that, you'll find that the majority of your problems are over. By removing self-doubt, your self-esteem and self-worth will increase dramatically. Don't let your unique personality be controlled by doubt and anxiety. Women love guys who genuinely like themselves and if you can get to a place where you feel comfortable in your own skin, you'll find that you have much more successful relationships. Remember that it can take some time to increase your self-worth, so don't get frustrated along the way. Look for the small things to increase your confidence and work on making changes every day to accomplish this goal. Within just a few days and weeks, you'll feel more comfortable talking to women and notice that they begin to respond more positively to you as well.
Growing Healthy, Happy Children From The Ground Up By Ailsa Nicola

As more research is done, we're learning that health during adulthood actually depends a great deal on childhood health habits. As a parent, you can work to help encourage and develop these habits in kids.

While it's impossible to control everything a child does, there are a few key health habits which can make all the difference. Regular physical activity is highly recommended by pediatricians, but it may be difficult to encourage this habit in children.

If a child does not have a safe place to play outside or be active, it may be necessary to look for unconventional ways to be active. Local parks and playgrounds may be an option. Many times, after-school programs have a physical activity component. In order to encourage regular physical activity for life, families that spend time together biking, hiking, or physically active tend to be healthier for life.

Find fun ways for kids to be active every day and try to limit sedentary activities as much as possible. Another component of building a healthy lifestyle is healthy eating. It's important for kids to learn about fresh fruits and vegetables while they're young and make eating fresh foods a habit.
Choose a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, with lots of colors to make it a more exciting experience. Letting kids choose a new fruit or vegetable to try from the grocery store each week is a great way to get them excited about trying new things.

Remember that half of the plate should be fruits and vegetables, so try to incorporate them into most meals. Kids are often more open to trying new foods than teenagers and adults, so make sure that this is encouraged as a healthy habit. Healthy eating isn't just about increasing fruits and vegetables, it's also about decreasing or limiting some foods. Limiting processed foods, saturated fats, and added sugars is an important healthy habit to teach kids. Try to encourage eating freshly prepared meals the majority of the time. Also, limiting sweets like cookies and cakes is recommended. Fresh fruits and fruit-based desserts are always good options for a child with a sweet tooth.

One of the key offenders with sugar consumption is sugar-sweetened drinks like soda. Try to encourage kids to drink milk and water instead of soda when available. It's certainly fine to enjoy all of these foods occasionally, but encouraging healthy eating habits and limiting these foods is recommended.

These healthy habits form the basis of good health in children and are especially important to encourage as children grow up. Most kids lead their adult lives based on the habits that they picked up in their early years, so by encouraging these healthy lifestyles early on, it's much easier to help children grow up to be health-conscious adults as well. Make sure that kids understand a healthy lifestyle depends on consistent, healthy choices to eat good foods and be active every day. Children are eager to learn and easy to teach these habits and patterns early on in life.
Parenting the ADHD Child: 5 Helpful Tips By Susan Orenstein,

Ph.D. Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a developmental disorder characterized by impulsivity, deficits in sustained attention, and hyperactivity.
Children with ADHD have difficulty delaying gratification and often act without thinking. They may interrupt conversations, blurt out answers without being called on, or have trouble waiting their turn. Under stress, children with ADHD may respond emotionally through an outburst or tantrum.

These children also find it hard to concentrate and are easily distracted or bored. In such situations they may make careless mistakes, daydream, or fail to complete tasks. They may also forget to bring home books, have trouble remembering assignments or misplace things frequently.
Children with ADHD seem to always be on the go. They become especially restless in structured situations such as the classroom and may tap their fingers, fidget, wriggle their legs, rock or leave their seat.

The ADHD child's symptoms of hyperactivity, impulsivity and difficulty concentrating can make parenting very challenging and often exhausting. Parents of ADHD children can benefit from learning and applying behavior modification strategies and stress management skills as well as connecting with other parents and professionals for ongoing support. Here are 5 Helpful Tips For Parents to utilize when parenting their ADHD child:

1) Structure, Structure, Structure! Children with ADHD function best under consistent and predictable circumstances.
Create colorful charts or checklists of your child's daily routines. Help your child check off activities as they are completed. Place timers, clocks and other cues around the house as reminders to stay focused and to complete tasks on the routine chart. Give your child clear, specific instructions. For example, instead of asking your child to help clean the kitchen, request putting away the silverware or wiping the table.

2) Homework Help Help your child establish a quiet, uncluttered space free of distractions, to complete homework. If your child tends to forget their textbooks at school, consider keeping a second set at home.

3) Create a Reward System Use rewards to encourage good behavior. Rewards may include praise, special privileges or activities, or quality time with parents. Provide consequences sooner than later. For example, take away a privilege that same day, as opposed to grounding your child from a friend's birthday party the next week.

4) Be Positive. Children with ADHD can be incredibly creative, energetic and attuned to things we may fail to see. Look for your child's special talents and highlight them. Remember that ADHD is strongly rooted in heredity- you and your child did not choose this disorder. Rather than attempt to tackle every aspect of your child's behavior difficulties, focus on making one or two changes at a time.
5) Take "YOU-time" Being a parent of a child with ADHD can be both trying and exhausting so it's important that you take time to recharge. Allot time throughout the week to do things you find enjoyable or relaxing.

It's All in the Follow-Up! By Chris Atley

Last weekend I had the pleasure of giving a mindset talk at Cathy Alessandra's Success Summit. I had such a great time sharing this information, and what was even better was to hear how it affected the people in the audience. One woman told me it had literally shifted her entire outlook! She was so excited to get back into her office. This is why I love what I do. It's about sharing information that positively impacts the joy and happiness of other people. I do want to give you some practical business solutions this week. Because even though a healthy mindset is imperative to your success, it's also about taking action. I see a lot of people fall short in the follow-up. Read on to learn effective strategies for following up with potential clients. As important as it is to get out from behind your computer and in front of the people you can help, what you do afterward is equally as important.

You want to have a sound strategy for meeting and connecting with your ideal client - people who you can serve. Gaining visibility is one of the best things you can do to grow your business.

Speaking being the best. BUT it will all be for nothing if you don't have a follow-up plan. I remember having someone out to give us a quote for shutters once. It was a man running his own business and he was a super friendly guy. I really liked him and was pretty convinced we would go with him. He told me he would call and he never did. In the meantime, his competitor followed up and I decided to go with them. Strange though, I did feel a sense of loyalty to him and told his competitor that if they could give me a lower price than his, then I would go with them. In my mind, that gave me a reason to go with his competitor.

There are a couple of great lessons in that story. First, had he had a system in place for following up, I wouldn't have fallen through the cracks. How much other business is he leaving on the table? Second, building relationships and connecting with others is really important. I felt a sense of loyalty to him after meeting him only once. People feel that way with you too. They want to work with you. They are ready. BUT if you don't follow up with them afterward, you will never know this. After you map out your visibility plan, make sure you schedule time after each strategy to include follow-up. Block it off in your calendar.

You will make time for it and it will also prevent you from booking too many things at once. You want to have the time to follow up properly and make the most out of the opportunities you have scheduled in. What is your follow-up plan? Do you make phone calls, send emails or connect on social media? I do all three. Calling all of the people who may be good clients for you is the most important part of the follow-up. Making those calls should be your first priority. Email and social media is secondary but great ways to stay in touch with people. This is especially true if they haven't opted in to your database (where they can stay connected through a newsletter you send out, etc.). What is your long-term follow-up plan? How will you stay in touch on a regular basis?

Social media is great for this. It's really easy to stay connected to the people you have resonated with, but who aren't quite ready to take the next step of working with you yet. Be sure to identify the people you have met who may be able to connect you to your ideal client. This relationship should be nurtured and maintained. This will involve going above and beyond social media. You may want to send a handwritten note or suggest going for lunch every once in a while. When you take the time to execute a well-devised follow-up plan, you will be amazed at how your income will grow! Chris Atley is CEO & Founder of Total Harmony Coaching. Live With Intention - Attract What You Deserve in Your Life By Jessica C Smith

It's a Choice to Live With Intention Living with intention is all about choice. It's about embracing that we are the supreme authorities over our lives and all our experiences. It's a tall order, so be gentle on yourself as you mull this idea over in your mind. Not many of us are willing to embrace the concept that all we have right now has been a product of all the thoughts we have had over our lifetime. Life is not about blame. Life's not about finding fault in our past behaviors or in the behaviors of others. Life is about living every experience you want to live and doing so in any way in which you choose to live it. So how do we live on purpose and with intention? We must decide to take full accountability for our lives and readily accept that the Law of Attraction is a Universal principle, scientifically proven and is always at work in our experiences. The Universe wants us to live our best life and is always unfolding and orchestrating all that needs to happen to bring about your desires. It's up to you to identify these desires. You do this through the thoughts you think and the feelings you feel. Which one comes first-thoughts or feelings? Which comes first is less important to understand because the only thing you have complete control over is your own thoughts.

Thoughts, subconscious or conscious, create the feeling, or vibrations, that attract the Universe's response. Be choosing thoughts that most serve you, you will also be creating the vibrations that attract all that serves you.

Three Step Formula for Living With Intention
1. Identify your desire.
2. Give your desire your attention and focus as often as possible throughout your day.
3. Allow your desire to manifest in your life.

What do you Desire? Discovering what you truly desire takes a bit of intentional thought and effort. We all have many dreams--some which come into our thoughts but often quickly go, and others that we can feel in the very core of our beings. When we think of our desires, we feel good. When we focus on what we want-and if it's what we truly desire-we will feel the goodness of that desire reverberating in our souls. Be precise about what you want and when you want it. Be as specific as possible about your desires. If you want more abundance in your life, how much do you want?

If you want to create a healthier and more fit body, how much weight do you want to lose-and by when? If you desire an intimate and loving relationship, describe all the attributes you would like to have in that person-and when would you life to meet him or her? Give Attention to Your Desire. Take time every day; take the time to do this multiple times each day or whenever possible and give positive focus to your desire.

The Universe only responds to what we give focus to. By being clear about what you want, you can give it the proper attention that will vibrationally align with you having it in your experience. "The Law of Attraction responds to whatever vibration you are sending by giving you more of it, whether it's positive or negative.

It simply responds to your vibration." Michael Losier Allow it. So often we confuse the Universe by all our demands about what we "want." By not deliberately thinking thoughts that serve you, thoughts that may be a detriment will invade your mind. It has been suggested that we experience more than 2,000 thoughts each minute with 80% of them being the same thoughts (or slight variations of those thoughts) as we had yesterday. Unfortunately, 90% of our thoughts have a negative vibration-allowing us to think about all the things we don't want, rather than what we do.

By curbing the negative thinking and intentionally thinking thoughts that serve your higher good, you will create new neuro pathways in your brain that will allow positive thoughts to travel more consistently. Allow the good to flow from your positive thoughts-be aware when something good happens in your life, whether it be large or small. Gratitude is the attitude of abundance and by being grateful you will be vibrationally aligned. Often before we can truly understand what we want, we must first know what we don't want. Knowing this is sometimes an easier place to start for people who want to live intentionally-we habitually speak of the things we don't want-and of course, the Universe responds to our point of focus and brings to us exactly that: all that we DON'T want.

There is clarity through contrast. Exercise: Understanding What You Desire. Take out a large piece of paper, preferably a legal sized piece and a pen. On the top of the page, write the title: Living With Intention: Understanding ALL the things you DON'T want in your life. Then, find yourself a place where you will be uninterrupted for a minimum of 15 minutes. Set a timer if you need to because you want to sit for at least 15 minutes for this exercise. Number your page all the way to the bottom. Write the numbers 1-50 along the left side of the paper, making two columns if needed. Now, with no filters-just a free flow of consciousness, write ALL the things you don't want in your life as it pertains to your area of desire. If you find you have run out of "don't wants" before the 15 minutes is up, stay in thought until something else comes up or until your time is finished. Examples of things you don't want: (Desire is to have more money.) 1. Don't want to pay my bills late. 2. Don't want to receive calls from creditors 3. Don't want to see an empty savings account 4. Don't want to answer calls from creditors 5. Don't want to watch what I spend 6. Don't want to say no to my kids 7. Don't want to only eat in cheaper restaurants 8. Don't want to budget my grocery list 9. Don't want to pay late fees 10. Don't want to feel broke 11. Don't want to order meals on price alone 12. Don't want to work overtime to pay my bills You get the point. Keep writing about all the things you don't want in your life. When you think you have written down ALL the "don't wants", flip the paper over to Side B. Side B: Things I do want in my life. To fill out this side you have to be very clear on what it is you do want. As you write your list in the same, free flowing style you did for Side A, write for the entire 15 minutes. Once you have finished Side B, go back to the first part of the exercise and begin crossing off the contrasting statements.

For example: If on Side B you wrote: "I want to feel wealthy" you would cross off #10 on Side A: "I don't want to feel broke." Once you have crossed off as many as you can, review your list on Side A to see what still remains. Turn over to Side B and write-for that particular "don't want" from Side A that wasn't crossed off-a sentence about what you DO want. For example: If you notice that # 11 on Side A remains not crossed out, then on Side B, writes something like: "I dine at the finest restaurants and always order exactly what I want." When you have finished this exercise, revisit my blog site for the next step in your journey of Living On Purpose and with Intention. In the upcoming article, I will discuss how you will write your ideal Desire Statement.

Until next time, be aware of what you are including in your vibrational bubble and if it does not serve your highest good, choose a different thought by verbalizing a statement that will serve you. "You are a creator; you create with your every thought. You often create by default, for you are getting what you are giving your attention to wanted or unwanted but you know by how it feels if what you are getting is what you are wanting or if it is not what you are wanting." -Abraham Hicks To work with me in one of my various opportunities, please send me an email to my gmail account: influenceyourrealitynow or click on any of the links below to take you to my individual sites which will better help you understand how you, too, can begin to live abundantly and create the life of your dreams.

Best Wishes for all your successes
